James Deen is a male pornstar who “let down” his fans in late 2015 when his fellow pornstar and ex-girlfriend Stoya confessed via Twitter that Deen had raped her. Shortly following Stoya’s accusations, 11 more women came forward with allegations of rape: Tori Lux, Ashley Fires, Amber Rayne, Kora Peters, Nicki Blue, Lily LaBeau, Joanna Angel, Bonnie Rotten, Bree Olson, Farrah Abraham, and an unidentified woman with the initials T.M.
Deen’s fall from grace was particularly disappointing because news sources as mainstream as The Guardian had previously labeled him a “feminist porn star”; GQ named him “The Well-Hung Boy Next Door”, and Esquire called him “The Ryan Gosling of Porn”.
Shortly following these accusations, Kink, an online porn company, and The Frisk, a women’s entertainment website, both cut their professional ties with Deen. Despite these accusations, Deen still has a career, and won two AVN awards in January 2016, the porn-equivalent of an Oscar.
