Biography

Day Ravies are an indie-rock band from Sydney, Australia. Their four members (Lani Crooks**, **Caroline de Dear, Matt Neville & Sam Wilkinson) each contribute songs, and the band work together on sinewy arrangements of vocals, guitar, bass, synthesisers, live and programmed drums. They are influenced as much by their Aussie peers as they are by indie-rock icons from Stereolab to Pavement. Their music drips with hooks and compelling dichotomies of pretty and harsh; breezy and brooding; pop and rock.
The Day Ravies live experience is one of wall-of-sound guitar, instrument & vocal swapping, and rollercoaster-like set lists. It is often ramshackle, but always fun. In their time together, the band have provided support for the likes of internationals Deerhunter, The War On Drugs and The Clean, plus local acts like Pond, The Laurels and Dick Diver. They have appeared on several festivals bills including Victoria's ‘Boogie Fest’, Sydney's ‘At First Sight’ & ‘Secret Garden’, and the final ‘Camp A Low Hum’ in Wellington, NZ.

In 2012, Day Ravies self-released an EP that earned them their first bit of attention. This paved the way for* 'Tussle'*, their debut album released in 2013 on Popfrenzy to wide acclaim. The record scored 'Album of the Week' on Sydney's FBi Radio and a nomination from the station for Sydney Album of the Year. It also came in at #24 on tastemaker website Mess & Noise’s annual Reader's Poll.

Day Ravies will release a 7" single later this year on French label Beko Disques, and their second album on Popfrenzy early in 2015. The album boasts heavier songs than its predecessor, which was praised for its gentleness. Arguably more confident than 'Tussle', the forthcoming record brings vocals and backbeats to the fore, and is just as full of surprises. It is definitely one to look forward to.

There aren’t enough terms in the dictionary to describe the music of Day Ravies. ‘Shoegaze’, ‘Dream-Pop’, ‘Jangle’ – call it what you will, the Sydney-based quartet are masters at creating shimmering pop music that captures the youthful spirit of the 90s, peppered with a unique slice of modern imagination. To date they have released one EP and a digital single, with a full-length album to follow in early 2013.
