Hmm, personally I don't think that the songs themselves are bad or anything. It's just the flat and lifeless production which kills several of them. Anyway, "What's Really Happening?" is pretty cool. Love the guitar on it.

He has made many masterpieces and albums of questionable quality, but out of the 23 albums he was put out, this is his worst (excluding Pin Ups). All of his other releases show anything from a lightning storm of creativity to at least a few faint sparks of decent moments, but not this. It's so flat and stripped of everything that I liked Bowie for. Anything good about his debut album, his magnificent 70s career, whenever he hits the mark in the 80s, and his strangeness in the 90s is not present in 'Hours...'. He says Never Give You Up is his worst and doesn't even remember recording Station to Station, but this is where he throws up by hands and says "I just don't know". Thankfully, his worst is not as bad as many other artists low-points, but if you were introduced to Bowie via his 70s material (ESPECIALLY Low, "Heroes", StS, etc.) proceed with caution. You're in for a much bumpier ride than those introduced through Let's Dance or his glam rock God heydays.

I love Bowie. He has a voice that can be dreamy and romantic when he wants it to be (such as with the Labyrinth soundtrack), or pretty much whatever kind of music you are in the mood for. I like this particular album for when I want a mellow mood.

i agree with gothicbowie - it definitely requires more than 1 listen!!! i think there are really some great moments on the album, such as The Dreamers, Survive and Thursday's Child. bonus tracks are very good too...
