The only problem with a comeback, is the possibility of hearing some music of lesser quality. Dargaard have 4 perfect albums so far. So, it would be terrible to hear something which is not of supreme quality.

Having listened to such neoclassical darkwave bands as DCD, Dark Sanctuary, Artesia, Arcana, Narsilion, Autumn Tears and Elend, I can say with confidence that this band right here is the best neoclassical darkwave band in existence. They are almost on the same level as DCD's Within the realm of a dying sun and definitely have the closest sound to that album, but while this album is the only one by DCD that I enjoy, Dargaard has 4 amazing albums with lots of great individual songs. Great melodies and magical atmosphere combined with excellent vocals of Elisabeth leave all the other bands no chance. Well, maybe Autumn Tears, Artesia and Elend can compete, but Dargaard better suits my taste. If you like Dargaard, check out Dominion 3, it's basically an industrial version of Dargaard. Also check out Abigor and Amestigon, they are black metal, but have an atmosphere a little bit similar to that of Dargaard.

I totally agree. I used to correspond with Tharen in Dargaard's forum/board a decade ago, and I remember he wrote in a thread that his biggest influence is DCD's Within the realm of a dying sun from 1987. First Dargaard album came out in 1998. In the meanwhile Tharen (and Elisabeth) were mostly into black metal. And I second you on Dominion III. They are an absolute must for Dargaard fans. Dargaard themes are regarding the past, yet Dominion III were about futuristic themes and had a bit more EBM/industrial approach. But one can still hear so many similarities. especially when Elisabeth was singing in both acts

I think they never will. They are in their forties now. I don't know whether they are still together, but I saw a message that they have a kid, so Dargaard isn't in their priorities. For Tharen we still have Amestigon though. It's bad we can't listen to those projects that Elizabeth took part in.

I agree. But folks in their 40's are not relatively old, considering the fact that guys that Rolling Stones are still touring well into their 70's.

And Dargaard is a bit more enjoyable than The Rolling Stones !! Even though the song 'Paint It Black ' is quite good actually.

I bought "rise and fall" completely at random when it came out just because i liked the reviews (no internet to listen to at the time). Fell in love to their sounds until this day. Thank you Tharen, Elisabeth.

I asked Tharen about Dargaard, and sadly it appears there won't be a new Dargaard release in the next few years. My question: http://prntscr.com/2fguyu Tharen's answer: http://prntscr.com/2fgux5

v For 'desperate' fans..Check the two recent Dominion-III albums. Both Elisabeth Toriser and Tharen are featured in them. Their style is not exactly similar to Dargaard, but a bit more EBM/Industrialish. But there is still a haunting Dargaard aura in that project as well. But with a more futuristic tone, rather than an ancient one.

Now in the start of Autumn they started getting more listeners again (a bit logical, as expected), around 400 per day, as the diagram above shows. @sanja717 It's better and more artistically honourable to just release 4 masterpieces and stop gloriously, as Dargaard did, rather than keep releasing more and more mediocre, redundant and useless albums every 1 or 2 years, just for financial profit (e.g. Anathema, Dream Theater, Ulver, Nightwish etc.)

Tharen in the last recording/mixing phase for the new Amestigon LP, "so not much time for anything else" according to him :( I hope for a new album next year in 2014 maybe. meanwhile we have 3 great releases coming out soon that will keep my ears entertained till then: 1- Sopor Aeternus - Poetica 2- Aardia - A Journey To The Unknown. 3- Dementia Ad Vitam - L’Éloge de l'Origine

According to the 'recent listeners trend' above: Around 600 Dargaard listeners here in the last winter, but only around 350 on average, now in June. ;) Maybe because the day is longer ; and this is mainly night music. Sometimes, I think I am drifting in a cesspool of metal-alt-goth mediocre pile of sounds, only to discover diamonds like March Of Shadows. (Not even Top-15 here) I hope Tharen makes some new music in the future, no matter the name of the band.
