For all the shit people talked about this album, I thought it was going to suck. It's got a sweet mellow lurching groove. Vocals are just a little too loud compared to everything else bu the production isn't nearly as bad as people whine about (reviewer in Decibel Mag said Kurt Ballou or Erik Rutan should have mixed it! LOL, it would have been worse with those producers, a brick-walled clipping muddy mid-range mess).

I think we shouldn't compare weak produced album to the worse ones, just to justify how it's made. But I agree that people care a bit too much for production, that it interrupts the real sound of an album, which is really good. For those who missed Danzig after Skeletons, it's good deal even with worse production.

With better production this album would shine. With production it has it's very confusing record; still enjoyable, yet frustrating. But this makes it very good album to coming back - soul from classic Danzig is easily hearable (which surprise the most) and it stays in mind. And you try again and again to convince yourself to this sound, which is not painful. I just hope this album will be rerecorded in the future, and next one will get the production Danzig deserves.

I'm a little bit disappointed. In my opinion "Black laden Crown" suffers from the "Skeletons" disease (very poor production, annoying guitars, boring drums, bad voice, NO BASS AT ALL !). I really love "Last Ride", I wish most of the albums sounded like it. "Pull the Sun" is the other I'm really into. And I have to admit that I like "Hwy 9" by now, haha, I hated it a few weeks ago. Maybe I have to give the album some more rotations...
