Dan Michaelson and The Coastguards is a project of British singer-songwriter Dan Michaelson (previously of Absentee). Following the release of "Blindspot" in 2013 and "Sudden Fiction" in 2011, the band released "Distance" in August 2014. "Memory" was released in May 2016.
It was in September 2007 whilst waiting to record the Absentee album that was to become "Victory Shorts" that Michaelson decided to start work on new project. After several phone calls, Icelandic producer Valgier Sigurdsson (Björk, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Sigur Ròs) came over to stay in London and produced the tracks Michaelson had written. Michaelson recruited some of London's best players and amongst those appearing on the debut release "Saltwater" are: Henry (from the band Fields), Arnulf (KT Tunstall), Tom & Henry (Rumblestrips) and Valgier himself playing various parts of the piano.
Subsequent albums include "Shakes" (2010), "Blindspot" (2013), "Sudden Fiction" (2011), "Distance" (2014), "Memory" (2016)
