Periodically some other friendly musicians also have been participated in studio works and performances. In the first period musical style of the project might had been described as crossover of and . It was documented on the debut album “Tainted Spring” (1996). In the fall of 1996 Dmitry Tolmatsky moved to the city of Saratov. There, with participation of members of a local post-punk band “Project Pobeg” , “live-version” of DMT, was completed . These line-up might had been seen at some performances in Saratov and at “Noise & Rage” festival that was took place in june of 2001 in Moscow club “Dom”. From 2002 musical style of DMT has changed to /. In same time, in cooperation with members of Saratov industrial band “Institute Of Sound Therapy”, there was formed new project called SS-18 (in the name of the biggest soviet ballistic rocket, in US terms also named “Satan”) intended for more heavy and radical experiments. In October of 2003 live performance of SS-18 took place in Moscow at the congress of National-Bolshevik Party (NBP). In 2004 Dmitry Tolmatsky had began to create a series of works under common name “Funbient Works”. A compilation of these works with some alternative versions was released on Tolmatsky’s own label RWCDAX. Extended version of these release is planned on Kultfront Records for 2007. 2) With the initials "DMT," Drum Machine Technicians could easily be mistaken as a cookie-cutter rave act rather than the crafters of chunky, abstract electronic layers. Not knowing they were naming themselves after a fast-acting hallucinogen, Eddie Def and DJ Cue started DMT to further explore the lost days of the fusion between hip-hop and electronic music that was pioneered by such people as Afrika Bambaataa. With both DMT founders having a long history in the hip-hop and turntablist/battle DJ scenes, they wanted to further discover and challenge barriers. They noticed that electronic music producers were experimenting with hip-hop beats, but most of the hip-hop community was ignoring what was going on in the electronic music realms. What resulted are albums full of crunchy loops and heavy slices of sound, all made on Akai MPC 2000 sampling drum machines. Their works fit closer to the darker sounds of chunky, heavier IDM and have almost no traces of scratching or hip-hop. Eddie Def and DJ Cue traded off solo albums for the first four DMT efforts and then joined forces on the fifth. Both men also work on outside, solo production projects and DJ Cue owns Cue Records in California.
