I Put A Spell On You, Awesome song, I don't like CCR at all but this song is epic!

The bluesiest and, with Bayou Country, swampiest of CCR's LPs. This one doesn't have the enduring classic radio hits that the later albums do (beyond maybe "Susie Q"), but what it does have is consistency, strong performances and a hell of an atmosphere. "I Put a Spell on You" is a classic song that many music fans will know from the Screamin' Jay Hawkins original, but IMO the Creedence version slaughters it; John absolutely slays his guitar solo, then the band gets funky and jammy on "Susie Q" and "Ninety-Nine and a Half," sort of foreshadowing what they'd do on the likes of their classic "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" cover, and they finish the album off on a very high note with "Walk(ing) on the Water," with its impassioned vocal and concluding outro jam. I guess if there's a knock on this album it's that most of the better tracks are covers, but when the cover versions are definitive I don't consider that a knock. John would become a great writer (and then some!) next time out.
