This is one of the most exquisite vocal performances that I've ever heard. One of my college classmates lent me her copy of the cassette in 1991, and I transferred it. I couldn't get enough of this song. I played it so many times, and didn't care that I didn't understand the lyrics.

everything about this song is so weird (emphasis added). idk it goes around in patient loops, the voice with patient pauses, and all the while this weird cembalo hammering away. and then at the end the climax that balances everything out like numbers versus letters, but more of an emotional climax since it is a little subdued. WHOA! my brain likes.

try to listen it while reading lyrics :D Each is not my love, moan I for what I make up hundreds so I know how to make love There, you can have my youth, I know I have loved Started to see him, 'till when I married him To yearn admits you're outside to me Grow up I have seen these all my life, perhaps a lot more And I have been so naive All move and try he knew not And your spangle, how it hurts, and I have feelings To yearn admits you're outside to me Grow up

haunting! i agree with imri_n that it's about death, perhaps abuse as well but it's too distant to be sure. there's much regret in the second verse. the first verse is outright peculiar. liz is trying to hide the message; still pretty deep and beautiful.
