Childish Gambino released “What Kind of Love” in March of 2014, four months after the release of his second album Because The Internet. According to Bino, he released the song via SoundCloud because the song was previously released on iTunes without his permission:
“i saw that someone is selling this on iTunes. i gave this away for free since it’s incomplete and a rough. thought it was wack someone did that without my permission. so i put it up here.“
Some speculate that the track was cut from Because the Internet, and the song’s haunting guitar riffs strongly resemble the album’s fourteenth track, “Flight of the Navigator.”
