When I first heard Elbow's "Asleep in the Back", Catherine Wheel was the first band that came to mind, closely followed by Talk Talk. It's called influence and it's how every band evolves their sound.

@ thoth-44 (first shout ) I am sure that Mark Hollis and Tim Friese-Greene, from Talk Talk would thank you for the compliment . I have heard an awful lot of Talk Talk's Laughing Stock LP used in several songs on several LP's by Catherine Wheel . A lot more than I would have thought .

Is it me or do the drums and a lot of the way this song is composed sound an awful lot like Talk Talk from the Laughing Stock LP ? Me thinks there was a rather large Talk Talk influence on this band . ( Not a bad thing - I am a Talk Talk fan too ) Check the compositions of these 2 tracks . Talk Talk - [track artist=Talk Talk ] Ascension Day [/track] - OR - Talk Talk - [track artist=Talk Talk ] New Grass [/track]
