Biography

Garrett Seamans is a musician based in Los Angeles, California. He is known for his music projects postcard boy and later carwash.

Born in San Diego, California, he grew up playing saxophone during his fourth-grade years. However, his experience in the school band did not resonate with him, leading him to discontinue formal training. A pivotal moment occurred when he became enamored with the ukulele, influenced by his older sister's engagement with the instrument. This familial connection played a significant role in shaping his musical pursuits.

Seamans' foray into music production began during middle school when he engaged in editing surf videos set to the backdrop of the scene on Soundcloud. Seamans' musical interests evolved in high school, gravitating towards indie pop, , and the music landscape. These inclinations prompted the inception of his project postcard boy, characterized by -infused vocals and increasingly instrumentals. The name "postcard boy" came from the lyrics "can I be your postcard boy", from a song he wrote but scrapped. He liked the thought of staying in touch via letters, so he kept the lyric as a moniker.

His artistic journey took a new turn with the emergence of the moniker carwash in 2019. This endeavor provided Seamans with an avenue to experiment with a distinct influence, diverging from the sonic landscape of postcard boy. "Carwash" was just one of many aliases he had written down that he thought was funny.

Quietly, he dropped the song "striptease" while in the midst of directing six music videos for his postcard boy EP called "Limbo". Over the course of the next year carwash continued to grow, releasing follow up singles "supermarket" and "punch22" as well as continuing to drop postcard boy tracks ("Picture Book" and "skydive").

Seamans' creative output was marked by a multifaceted approach that embraced both music and visual arts. Seamans, armed with a background in film and photography, seamlessly integrated the visual elements into his artistic endeavors, crafting immersive worlds for his projects. In 2021, he released the first carwash project called "soap water". Along with this, he wrote, directed, and produced a short film titled "soap water: the movie" that accompanies the EP, telling a light-hearted story that is soundtracked chronologically by the five song project. With a background in film and photography, the visual aspect of both carwash and postcard boy is integral to the world each builds out.

Seamans re-emerged with postcard boy's album "Somewhere ON A Hillside," which debuted on July 28, 2023. Now neither artist project holds the front seat, but instead focus him as an artist to exploring distinct sonic spaces and visual identities.
