"Blown Away'' was the second single off Carrie Underwood's album "Blown Away". "Blown Away" speaks of a daughter and her revenge towards her abusive father by failing to help him into shelter when a tornado arrives. The song is in A minor with an approximate tempo of 134 beats per minute and a main chord pattern of Am-C-G. Chris Tompkins wrote the song with Josh Kear, with whom he also wrote Underwood's "Before He Cheats". Tompkins came up with the idea of using a storm as an image after playing various sound effects on his keyboard, one of which was a thunderclap. They originally did not have an idea as to where they would take the song, until Kear asked why the song's protagonist would be angry. "Blown Away'' managed to win two awards at the 2013 Grammy Awards; "Best Country Solo Performance" and Best Country Song (songwriter's award). The song also managed to reach #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #2 on the Billboard Country charts.
