Franckensteina Strataemontanus is a masterpiece, probably of the darkest occult metal albums in 2020, there are other Black artists but Carach Angren members have deep studies in symphonic techniques which will make you feel horror and pain that makes your soul sweat on every track.

Because Seregor gave up on rhyming/lyricism for most of it and that's like one of the main components of Carach Angren's music. Not only does it read like a soap opera but the way Seregor describes the events is very dull: "And there's no sunshine, it's still dark outside. The living room is trashed. There are bloodstains and pieces of glass everywhere. Father still passed out on the couch" -- I find it more instrumentally interesting than Dance and Laugh though, way too much chugging on that one.

Yeah, its a departure form their previous albums, more heavy metal at least in the beginning, but I find it an interesting change nonetheless. Though I'm more about the extreme vocals and the symphonic sounds, don't really look at the lyrics often. Though hopefully people will give another listen to "The Necromancer", "Sewn for Solitude", and especially "Like a Conscious Parasite I Roam" from the new album, it does have some killer tracks.

Sewn for Solitude was the first song I liked too, and it seems to be the case for a lot of other people. Definitely a great song. Scourged Ghoul Undead suffers from cheesy theremins like Charlie but I still find it enjoyable nonetheless. My main problem with this album is that many songs seem to work like interludes rather than actual songs (title track and the horrible "Monster", by far my least favorite track by the band atm). The Necromancer is the comedic track of this album to me, like Sir John. I can't take it seriously but it's somehow still a bop. I love the second half of Parasite but that's to be expected from a Carach Angren closing track. I find them impossible to dislike (Shining, Fields, Thunder, and even Tragedy Ever After are all enjoyable songs). The transition from the closing track to the bonus track blew me away and got me addicted to the song "Frederick's Experiments" but damn is it WAY too short. Also it seems their intro tracks just keep getting better.

"Operation Compass" is really reminding me their greatness from WtCSF. I also appreciate some more atmospheric parts, like self-titled song with its theatrical sound. Overall, it's another "decent-but-not-in-the-first-listen" album, lacking power from their first albums, but not bad in general.

I wish they were more diverse. Evey album since This Is No Fairy Tale to this new album sounds exactly like Where The Corpses Sink Forever, but bad

Finally giving this another spin. I noticed the production seems much more muted/subdued than previous releases. That caught me off guard. Probably made the first listen especially bad. It's not "bad" production to my ears, it's just not what I expected, so I have to get over that first before I can really sink into the music.

Give it a try. Personally, I think it's the best since Where the Corpses Sink Forever.

Exactly the same here. Those two are definitely the best songs. The closing and bonus tracks are also nice. I wish for once they'd have an album like Lammendam again where there aren't silly tracks like The Necromancer. SCIENTIST, PHYSICIAN, SORCERER, MAGICIAN!

Too much focus on the gimmick here, it’s like they forgot to make awesome music.

My thoughts exactly. I like their last few records, but I definitely have not retouched them like I do the first 3 albums.

They've always been "blackened symph DM". They just toned down the black metal after the second album.

The first 3 albums are definitely black metal with some death metal elements, not the other way around.

This band sounds like if Satan had a small child and his telling his boy a tale at night before he goes to sleep
