Dutch-born, Grammy-nominated saxophonist Candy Dulfer, who has recorded with such varied musicians as Prince, Pink Floyd, Van Morrison, Living Color, and Aretha Franklin, plays mostly new material on her fourth solo album, as well as two covers, Chaka Khan's "Once You Get Started," and the Isley Brothers' "For The Love of You." Dulfer is at her funkiest on smooth, up-tempo songs like "Saxy Mood," on which she also provides lead vocals, resulting in an irresistible blend of her rhythmic sax lines and her silky voice, while ballads such as "Smooth" and "Wish You Were Here" are orchestrated with tenderness and sensuality. FOR THE LOVE OF YOU resonates with feeling, providing an infectious marriage of smooth jazz, soul, and funk.
