"I'm a Slave 4 U" is a song recorded by Britney Spears. It was released in the US on 24 September, 2001 as the lead single of Britney's third studio album, Britney. The song was released internationally in October of the same year. Written and produced by the duo The Neptunes, the pop song had a core urban vibe, and was a commercial success and was also well-received by critics. On charts, the song peaked at #27 in the US. Internationally, the single reached the top 10 in over 22 countries.
The song remains one of the most talked about pop culture moments of the 2000s. Largely due to her performance at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards in New York City where she performed with a live amelanistic Burmese python on her shoulders. The song and performance continues to remain relevent and is considered one of the greatest songs of 2001. In 2021, Billboard ranked "I'm a Slave 4 U" at number three in its list of "The 100 Greatest Songs of 2001".
