It's taken me three, possibly four tries of listening to this album to realize that there are only about four good songs on it. Of course, there is some amazing production and it's absolutely worth every minute of studio time put into it, but it falls short with some textbook over-production in regard to its styling. The moments of harmonizing, the occasional acoustic segments and Justin's lyrical skill are always present, but they can be buried by the heavy use of electronic or heavily-filtered instruments. Don't get me wrong, I love electronic music and acoustic music fusing, it can be done beautifully well, and this record DOES have moments of that, but it is greatly out-weighed by moments of heavy-handed overly punchy production that makes this record stick out as a sore thumb in Bon Iver's catalog. One thing that is important, too, is that Bon Iver is not a stranger to using electronic instruments or filtered vocals, instruments, etc. It's all about balance, and this isn't it.

I can't understand how anyone can't get wrapped up in to the passion behind specifically his voice and delivery of these heart breaking lines. This album is about a man who's dealt with the maddening crush of forbidden love for more than a decade. This album makes me want to hold the one I love as tight as I can and be grateful for every moment we get together. Not trying to tell you how to experience it, but maybe a good smoke-sesh and romance with the one you love while it plays would help it click a little more fully...

Ill be honest i am one of those people who prefers to not partake in the devils lettuce while listening to music at home, but at a show or with friends, thats a different story. You bring up totally sound points, and i agree full heartedly when it comes to the lyrical and emotional quality of the music. I’m much more dissatisfied by the sonic quality of the music. There are some lovely and truly emotive lyrics that i am touched by but the actual sound of the record takes that away for me in the listening experience. 715 creeks is still fabulous though, i get behind that one any day.

it took me almost 7 years to realize that the "facebook messenger clicks sounds" i heard on this record were not meant to be and was just an error by the person who leaked this album when i first downloaded it. Bummer! Now i totally hate this

Took me like 5 years to come back to this because the track titles annoyed me so much, really good stuff I'm finally realizing

Quickly became an album I've decided I don't really trust people who don't at least respect what it's about. Of course, it doesn't need to be your fave or even one you care to 'get', but I'd probably just side-eye people who have blatant disrespect for this album.

My absolute favorite among his work. The dichotomy of a very alien yet familiar sound, strangely warm, even during more menacing and pounding tracks. It's somehow like dying and remembering your life in a distorted and elongated flash.

I put of listening to 22 for so long. No idea why, maybe I thought id hate it when I heard it was more electronic. I was very wrong. It's incredible and it speaks to his artistry. Going from folk to big band and now whatever this is. I hope he has many more albums left to gift us with
