On “Deep Reverence,” Big Sean and the late Nipsey Hussle rap about pressures in life, both from gang violence, the rap game, and personal struggles. The track serves as the lead single to Sean’s fifth studio album "Detroit 2".
In February 2020, Sean addressed working together with Nipsey prior to his passing during an episode of Joe Budden’s Pull Up:
"I was working on this song with Nip and then Nip passed…"
Hit-Boy previewed the track in an Instagram live session with Boi-1da on March 28, 2020.
Sean released the song on August 25, 2020, by replying to a fan’s tweet the day before, saying that he felt “the world needs to hear feel Nipsey presence!”
During the week ending September 19, 2020, “Deep Reverence” debuted and peaked at #82 on the Hot 100.
