having pride in your ancestry is like taking credit for your local sports team's accomplishments? Like, what have you done to contribute, specifically. I adore this album though, and it doesn't seem like Quorthon is the bad kind of norse LARPer

Sad to see such a midwit bugman take here. I'll try to explain why ancestry matters real quick. Human biological differences exist, civilization is incommunicable. Women sexually select for status, thus men most capable in any given environment (Scandinavia in our case) pass on their genes (0.8 inheritability). Quorthon can only be a product of a people genetically most adapted (under harsh-Darwinian conditions) to cold winds and rocky shores. As to individual contributions. Most discoveries / innovations come from a few select geniuses. There is nothing shameful in the pride that comes from being a supporting member in a society that helps bring about such individuals (upholding group values, protecting your kin, etc..)

0/10 explanation of why any logical person takes pride in the dead relatives that helped them get born. Being born isn't an achievement. Having distant dead uncle that did great things isn't an achievement. You a big fan of nepotism? Think of all the shitty celebrities that are famous just because their parents were famous - you a fan of that too?

simple example: my mother loved to draw, my grandfather made sketches, and my great-grandfather even did this professionally and made copies of paintings. And I found out about this and saw his work only when I entered the art university. My attraction to this was innate. If my ancestors had not done this from "Father to Son" I would hardly have had an interest in drawing till now and would hardly have been selected for state-funded places. Also from another grandfather my brother haves perfect pitch. I am not proud of being better than someone who doesn't have, or whom I surpassed on competitions. I doubt that the ability of absolute hearing or drawing will help you against bandit with knife wich parents drunk too much vodka, lol, but at least I won’t walk in such places. i having pride in my ancestry, cause it gived me some skills, which would been hardly possible if my ancestors had not done this constantly. I wish you to discover yourself to become better than your fathers :)

One of the great metal albums. This and Twilight of the Gods are right up there with my favourites.

love that tag "fucking masterpiece" lol, of course Santa exists: he's actually Odin (think about it for a second: they have far too much in common to be a coincidence)

I never feel such power at any album like at this, it's fascinating, atmospheric. This album is definitely a masterpiece of the music of the early '90s.
