Yeah, I though the same. In their early stuff, they provide such an unique and envolving experience. But then, through the years, It's just kind of the same time after time. I still love 'em, though.

I think the first two songs are pretty unlike a lot of their work, and even if the last two songs are "typical" for them (hard to deny), they still sound really heavenly and uplifting, especially how that fourth track climaxes. I hope it ends up growing on you both at some point!! I'll probably always love them but I was worried I wouldn't be too hot on the new album after the single - thankfully, I was more than into it. I do hope they're able to put out an album of new material sometime though!

Peace on Venus has been the perfect soundtrack to this gross, gloomy start the rainy season here in Osaka.

Saw them supporting Mogwai in the early 2000s. Have loved them ever since! Just getting better. "In the pines" is their most concise effort.

I think my number one favorite is Ticket Crystals, but both On the Ellipses and Peace on Venus are close seconds.

judging by the contents of that record, they sure as hell weren't suffering from a hashish shortage...

The more I listen, the more like. Music is good, but with voice - it's just outstanding.

wasn't expecting it either. actually, despite being a huge BP fan, I never listened to it, because I was told it was just a bunch of poorly recorded noise (as if I didn't like poorly recorded noise!) after seeing your shout, I decided to give it a listen and well yes, it's amazing.

thanks for the replies! actually almost done relistening to amanita now and i like it a lot. i guess they're just this kind of band which you don't get into on the first listens.

i dunno, i find Dilate and Amanita to be representing their core sound the most, and that you like one and not the other is a bit befuddling to me. but alas, different strokes and all. just check some random other albums from over the years, like Ticket Crystals, Gazing at Shilla, Batholith and Peace on Venus. who knows what you end up liking

It depends. Try Lapsed. Or Bufo Alvarius. Then forget it if you don't like them, you're not done for Bardo Pond, it's sad (I'm sorry for your ears) but it happens. Rarely though. Note that Lapsed is good, different, but not their absolute best, there is no best in fact. We may all have different reasons to love Bardo Pond and venerate different albums too. It depends a lot on what you have heard before I guess.
