“BLEACH” was first heard on Billy Star, a short film released by the band on December 12, 2017. Three days later, the song was officially released on SATURATION III as the seventh track.

Every member’s addition to the song seems to relate to an internal or personal struggle that they deal with. Bleach is not only a powerful cleaner, but it also can act as a stain remover and a whitener for what may have seemed to be a ruined white piece of cloth. This could relate to each member wanting to wipe away their own issues, with bleach being a metaphor for that desire.

The song features collaborator Ryan Beatty, and is the second BROCKHAMPTON song to feature him, as he previously appeared on “QUEER” from SATURATION II.

At the time, “BLEACH“ was the only song that featured all seven performers.

“I had done background vocals on “QUEER” but we had never written together or done, like, a real song together. Romil made the track, me and Ian were there. Dom came in. And Ian like sang the melody and it was that instant feeling. We tracked the vocals, people came into the room and I just remember feeling after we put the hook in like, “This song is special.” I just felt it immediately.“

– Ryan Beatty, The FADER

Ryan Beatty is a pop singer from California known for his debut EP “Because of You“ which reached #1 on the US pop charts in 2012. Ryan and Ian (Kevin Abstract) are friends and he has previously provided background vocals to “QUEER”.

“BLEACH” was certified gold on November 13th, 2019.
