Imagine if Tobi let the next Avantasia album be from tons of newer AOR bands' singers that haven't gotten a chance to perform ensemble work. I love the cast he's worked with for years but everyone's starting to sound a little old and tired, like comparing the new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm to the old. When you've been doing the same thing since the year 2000, you gotta shake things up just a bit!

Well, Sammet's recent outputs got a little long in the tooth. Same formula, same guest, same same. By the way, isn't it sad that a fucking cover is the most popular song here? What a sad state of affairs.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sorta feels that way. Tobi's golden era for me is always gonna be 2004-2014, every album by both Edguy and Avantasia hits hard for me. The last three Avantasia albums have been varying degrees of good but I agree that he has gotten a bit formulaic and doesn't seem to pull out the stellar unique melodies like he used to. Also WTF why is the ABBA cover the most scrobbled?

Tobias should stop doing the same album over and over again with Avantasia. The guy needs a break, call his mates and reform Edguy. Also, the guestlist on Avantasia really need a shake up.....

Definitely... but with a power metal approach and not this crap and warm attempt of hard rock. And Geoff Tate, Ronnie Atkins and a couple of names should be replaced.....

As I said before, Tobi need to reinvent himself a little bit, because it's hitting the point where everything is sounding the same (thematically, structurally, etc). "Paranormal..." isn't bad, but it's meh, which I think is worse than being bad. If it was a spice, it would be flour. Maybe working with a different producer, inviting new guests, taking some time off might help. Sometimes taking distance from something is what you need to gain a new perspective and Avantasia is desperately needing that.

Yeah I have to agree with "Paranormal...", I do think that artistically, it'd be interesting for him to shake things up a bit. Some of these albums have been hit or miss for me, even if what I look forward to the most is the combination of storytelling and instrumentals... Taking time off might be the best really. However, I'd kill to see Avantasia live haha

Paranormal was neat, way better than its predecessor Moonglow, that one was pretty meh

New album 'A Paranormal Evening with the Moonflower Society' is new pearl of Avantasia. This is REAL music. No doubt, Tobias Sammet is the BEST musician of the world.

Finally got around the last 3 records (The Mystery of Time, Ghostlights and Mooglow). After some distance, I can tell that Avantasia is one of the most easy listening metal bands out there, which is fine. The music is good most of the times, I like his choices of cover songs, the epic songs are never boring, you can tell that musically he has evolved. BUT, he hasn't evolved that much as a storyteller and that's the major flaw for me (not that it will make me stop listening to them). This whole outcast-misplaced-tormented person-entity is getting tired (he has been exploring it since The Scarecrow). I think it's time for a change and that's why a lot of people miss the MOs: it was a little bit more naive, fantasy oriented, it had better characters, the story was more fluid. Now we have Tobi on the center with characters orbitating him (and that are derived from the main charcaters, since they are mainly manifestations of his troubled mind).

We don't get story arcs, there are no villains, no troubles for the main character, he's just whining lol. About the guests, they are always perfect for the job, but I'm getting bored by Kiske being used on the same songs over and over (he basically sing in his high pitched voice on the faster power metal-y songs). He has a beautiful voice and could do so much better (come on, look at what he's done on Place Vendome!). Overall, although I still enjoy the band, it has become a formulaic affair - a profitable one for Tobi but a sometimes tedious for the listener.

I really disagree with you. Maybe because I'm really into his music and as a hardcore fan i know bit more because i like knowing more. Tobi said himself over and over again that Avantasia is basically like therapy to him aka he puts a lot of himself in his music (as he always did). I guess for most people it might be boring (like for you) because you can't relate to lyrics and that's perfectly fine. I myself, feel like i've written most of the lyrics myself and so his narrative feels like home to me. I don't really see any problems here only YOU whining, seriously, if you like Metal opera albums so much nobody is forcing you to listen to the newer stuff, especially if you don't like it. I do that with some bands and i don't whine about their new music i don't like. I really don't get all this whining, especially when music is endless and when you can definitely find other metal operas etc by other bands and be happy. Tobi is doing fantastic and he has grown past need of Metal operas

No, it's not realisty. Maybe for you but not for me and for many many people who go to Avantasia concerts amd who buy albums. If you don't like - don't listen. Easy. I don't see anything to argue over anymore. If you don't like newer albums don't listen. I don't that with many bands but i don't whine publicly. 🤷♀️

There are 2 avantasias, MOs to Scarecrow, and all that came after Scarecrow. Both Avantasias are just pure gem, is just fantastic. But to be honest, i really like much more the new Avantasia, is a much mature band, with very deep lyrics and music, every song is a new journey, a higher experience than just listening a song.

The new album is a grower, I like it very much now but not in the same league as Ghostlights that’s for sure

same old same old songwriting formula from Tobias...it was old 10 years ago, sadly getting into their newer material (this or Edguy) has been a challenge for awhile.

Moonglow is the best album Sammet has made in years! I like the two previous as well, but he finally got the epicness back. Piper sounds like an old Edguy song with more vocals, not bad!

The songs are dull for me and it doesn't make me wish to listen to it. if I don't wish to listen something and I don't get excited it's average for me and normally, I don't feel like this about an album. Music needs to make me excited. it's just my personal opinion, don't be mad about. Maybe I might change my mind, when Age of the Joker by Edguy was released I didn't enjoy but I had changed my mind.

I've had a few listens and found the new album to be quite disappointing (comparatively speaking, I have very high standards for Tobi). It's decent but there's very few stand out songs. Many of the guest appearances are unremarkable (Kiske kills it of course, Tate sounds quite good on the ballad, Candice is enchanting, Petrozza is awesome but just makes me want to turn it off and put Kreator on instead). I thought Ghostlights was an incredible return to form after the three albums before, but sadly this doesn't stand up to that. Hope the album grows on me in time.

You don't know shit about Helloween, neither about Avantasia, keep your opinions for yourself, specially cocky opinions where you assume to know everything and overlook above everyone else, the more you know the more you understand there's nothing that you know, and is not an Avantasia reference, is a true fact.

Honestly I would not blame you for that because he is not in the same league as Michael Kiske. I listened to Kiske live with Avantasia and he was by far the best of all of them. In momeents his voice was too good to be true. I guess you are one of those guys who think that they know everything but you are so wrong. i can not explain you why you are wrong becuse your opinion is based on your poor knowledge and experience. As Baltazar Gracian said 500 years ago there is something caled divine taste. The more you know the more you can get close to it. You my son have a long road to get there i see.
