Hailing from Antwerp, Belgium, Autumna got fascinated by music at an early age, with interests ranging from harsh noise to classical and everything in between. He started producing about a decade ago, with a real boost in activity the last three years. For Autumna, making music falls into a combination of different practiced art forms, the concept of translating thoughts and emotions to sound blends with a similar passion for photography and writing. A track usually starts with one key element, which can be a feeling, a word, an image … Autumna is a firm believer in the principle ‘all sound is music’, a paradigm incorporated in every one of his tracks. The sounds he uses are derived from field recordings, movies, documentaries, conversations, his own voice, … For Autumna ‘all sound is music’ sets both a freedom as well as certain boundaries, oft the notion ‘less is more’ is a welcome given. To categorize the type of tracks Autumna produces, he often wields the term ‘eclectronica, a blend of idm, experimental and ambient. Although he is a fairly positive and cheery person, his tracks are usually dark, moody and brooding, with an occasional ray of light, a bit bipolar maybe. As major influences he lists: Autechre, Mike Paradenas, Christian Fennesz, Uwe Zahn, Kieran Hebden, Kim Hiortoy, Godspeed you Black Emperor!, Robin Rimbaud, AGF, …
