“One Armed Scissor” is the first single from At The Drive-In’s third album, Relationship of Command.

The lyrics, as with all ATD-I songs, are cryptic. However, they represent the heavy touring schedule of the band, which ironically was one of the reasons why ATD-I reputedly split up.

A “one armed scissor” is what “Vodka Red Bull” is called in Canada (Toronto) when a shot of vodka is dropped into Red Bull—similar to a Jägerbomb. On the road, supposedly the band is constantly intoxicated. The song is written from the point of view of this drunken (and drug-fueled) stupor.

The song also seemingly addresses the imminent split and divide of the band members into two factions; Omar and Cedric (who formed the more prog/experimental The Mars Volta) and Jim, Paul and Tony (who formed the more alternative Sparta).
