The song's lyrics and music video deal with the Juárez femicides, an ongoing series of rapes and murders in Ciudad Juárez, México, of young women who work in factories called maquiladoras. Cd. Juárez is located just across the U.S.-Mexican border from At the Drive-In's hometown of El Paso, Texas.

The song explicitly criticizes the Mexican Federal Police - known colloquially as the Federales - for their negligent response to these cases (i.e., "dancing on the corpse's ashes")
