The lead single off Wake Up, Sunshine (2020) sees the band reflecting on recent troubles and at the same time asking the fans if they’re still up to hear their music.
The song was written early on on the process and quickly became a frontrunner to become the first single due to the band’s love for it.
In a track-by-track analysis of the album for Kerrang, frontman Alex Gaskarth commented on the song: "This was a perfect storm of a few different things. The music felt really anthemic, and then the lyrics felt like a story about the band, in a way. There are all these things that I’ve said about myself in songs throughout the years, and then there’s that key line: ‘So what are you after? / Some kind of disaster.’ It’s like I’m asking the fans if they’re ready to do this all over again with another record. It put its hand up as that song that went, ‘Okay, this has put us on the right path towards an album.’ We looked at each other and realised that it felt like it would be really cool to open a show with this song, and so we said, ‘What if we opened the record with this, too?’"
"Some of Kind of Disaster" was written by vocalist Alex Gaskarth, bassist Zack Merrick and British songwriter/producer Phil Gornell. It was released January 21, 2020 by Warner Music Group and Fueled by Ramen, debuting and peaking at no. 27 on Billboard's Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart on February 8, 2020.
