Rolling Stone is always on Eric Clapton's nuts, Al Di Meola deserves so much more recognition as one of the greatest guitarists.

Rolling Stone typically cares about rock and pop, they rarely have interest, insight or passion for anything jazz

I think Al Di Meola has actually gotten me deeper into guitar driven jazz fusion. Been loving Mahavishnu Orchestra and some similar prog metal bands with influence from them in recent months, can definitely pinpoint Al Di Meola as the beginning of that. Even music I couldn't get into in the past is clicking more, like Gordian Knot.

Meola definitely was a HUGE influence on prog metal. I noticed it right away when listening to his solo stuff. I like him better than John McLaughlin or Carlos Santana, the other heavyweights of the fusion world.

There was this Japanese guy on Youtube last year, he had a uploaded a 25-hour video, (chronologically compiled) with all Al-Di Meola albums, from 1973 till now. Priceless, but yet that video went down.

I will tel you in 2012 what WAS the album of the year of 2011. [2] though they usually mean "so far" in the year, which is kinda obvious usually.

For the record, it's no longer my fave of the year, Matana Roberts destroyed everything else released this year I have heard so far.

I find the new album to be much more varied and eclectic than usual. I mean, Elegant Gypsy is still is best album by so damn far, but I didn't expect Pursuit to have so many added instruments and subtle genre blends. It's almost ambient at times, and I like the less latin/more mellow feel (which by his standards, is sorta self-experimental)
