so experimental ! I think to call this album just R&B is unfair. There's a little bit of everything on this album. Alternative rock, latin pop, dance pop, jazz, neo soul, etc. Even she says on the song "Loose Rap" that ' It ain't just rhythm & blues '. She took some real RISKS on this record and was starting to show different sides of her. RIP babygirl :)❤🕊

a single paragraph of 15 words typed by an old white man who is not part of black culture says anything, the audience he still has after all these years, his impact on 00's R&B and how it leaves us wondering what Aaliyah would have done in music in the next few years says it all.

I'm so glad her albums are finally on spotify, otherwise i would have had to have hunted down some used copies. her first two albums are good too but this one is the best by far.

Kind of bugs me that they didn't put "Messed Up" and just went with the international track listing for the streaming release, would have been great to have it before "Try Again" and have it as a 16 track album.

This album doesn't even sound like it belonged in 2001. That's how you know it has the impact, influence, and longevity.

once this hits streaming I hope people stop denying her enormous impact on music, especially all the pop/r&b of the last 10 years

I love this album! This r&b album at the time was very modern for the singers at the moment. With Aaliyah's angelic voice and Great Timbaland beats, Its a masterpiece! Another thing I realized is that most of the singers in the 90s had a very big vocal range however Aaliyah still one of the best from the 90s. All the singles were perfection, sadly Aaliyah died after the Rock the Boat music video. She could of been making hits today. I just think that she inspired so many singers today. This album is most definitely one of my favorite female r&b albums of all time!

I love this album so much. It's my favorite. It's truly a masterpiece. I mean, we can see her growth as an artist and as a person. She knew exactly what she was doing. Rock The Boat, More Than a Woman, Those Were The Days, I Can Be and It's Whatever are my favorites. ❤

Aaliyah's Self Titled was truly ahead of its time. To this day, 2020, you can still hear and see Aaliyah's influences in todays R&B music. IMHO this album even sounds fresh 19 years later. The form of the album: 19 tracks and the slick production that connects each song is what streaming services are working on these days and the album has such a strong material! The singles are well known songs worldwide, but also Read Between the Lines > Those Were the Days > Extra Smooth > Don't Know What to Tell Ya - wow these songs are hits! Never No More is a song with such strong meaning. The album explore many sounds all wrapped with Aaliyah's angelic voice and that's what makes it a masterpiece. I know this not on any streaming service but I highly recommend if you're an R&B and haven't listen to this masterpiece GO GET IT!
