The AVRO (Algemene Vereniging Radio Omroep) is one of the oldest broadcasters in the Netherlands and was officially founded on the 28th of December, 1927 in Hilversum, the home of Dutch broadcasting. AVRO's first director was Willem Vogt. He was also the radio announcer who made the first public broadcast on the 21st of July, 1923 at the pre-AVRO shared embryonic broadcasting service known as NSF (Nederlandsche Seintoestellen Fabriek).
