Has a distinct atmosphere to it that I really like - that main guitar riff certainly helps. Definitely sounds mystical (as mystical as purring animals, I guess).

Such a memorable song, love it when Davey sings ""I want to, I want to, I want to stay" :) [2]

First heard this on a Metal Hammer (uk) compilation cd in 2001/2. It was the best thing on there by a mile. Cracking summer tune...

I like this interpretation by natalyesaurus over at songmeanings.com "actually, afi is originally from ukiah (they say they are east bay hardcore, but davey havok was born/raised in ukiah, which is two hours north of san francisco). there is a venue called the phoenix theater that is located in petaluma (off of 101, on the way to san francisco) and that is where afi used to play and first became popular by doing gigs there. this song is not in metaphors or anything else; it simply is a tribute to the venue. the line about the girl on the wall refers to an actual painting on the wall of the phoenix theater. the ghost references are because the place is said to be haunted by many people who have gone to shows there or worked there."
