The big hit from ABBA's final album, 1981's The Visitors, 'One of Us' was one of various tracks that explored the darker territory of Ulvaeus and Benny's songwriting as the two men's divorces were beginning to influence their musical output. Indeed, the message of the song is about a woman trying to revive a dead relationship.

When 'One Of Us' was released as a single it became ABBA's last top 10 hit in the UK, peaking at #3 for three weeks. The song would have been #1 for the week of Christmas in 1981, however due to there not being a published chart Christmas week it remained at #3. 'One Of Us' also reached the top 10 in countries such as Austria (#3), Belgium (#1), Ireland (#1) , the Netherlands (#1), South Africa (#4), West Germany (#1) and as well in their native Sweden (#2).

The song was not as successful in countries like Australia, where the song barley cracked the top 50, stalling at #48 and in the US where the song failed to peak inside the top 100, even though the Group had made huge impact on the charts in both countries, escpecially Australia, just a few years earlier. Nevertheless, 'One of Us' was ABBA's swansong in terms of their hit-making career
