ABBA doesn't necessarily have a reputation as an albums' band because their singles were so damn successful. However, any '70s pop albums top 10 should include Arrival among its top spots because aside from it being a collection of irresistible music with some excellent songwriting and timeless melodies, it is solid and great to listen to from start to finish, featuring virtually no weak track and showcasing that instantly recognizable ABBA sound, which marries perfectly American pop grooves with European sophistication.

When I first listened through their discography, I had high hopes for this one (given the singles), and I was disappointed. I was surprised at just how silly some of the lyrics were: "When I Kissed the Teacher" and "Dum Dum Diddle" in particular. But over time, pretty much all of it grew on me and I'd say I love the record as a whole now. "My Love, My Life" is the true hidden gem on here; a wonderful, heartbreaking performance by Agnetha. Overall, Arrival had their best, most classic singles (and is my most played ABBA album for that reason), but their albums as a whole got better with each release.
