NYC MC A$AP Rocky pays homage to the Clutch City with “Houston Old Head”.
Despite representing Harlem, Rocky dedicates to the song to his elder role models in Houston, whom he credits as an important source of inspiration and life lessons for younger generations. In an interview with Complex, The A$AP Mob leader states that:
"I’m just really influenced by Houston’s culture. That’s the shit that really gets me going…It’s melodic, so it attracted me. I’m influenced by purple drink. I don’t give a fuck. I’ll sip it, so what? I think we all should sip it. Modern-day hipster shit. When it comes to Houston, I’m really attracted to the culture. Swanging, tipping, leaning, all that. That shit is dope.”
The track is produced by DJ Burn One, who is also behind the boards on “Roll One Up” another track on LIVE.LOVE.A$AP.
