Natalie reminds me of one of my classmates who couldn't keep her boyfriend happy; they look SO MUCH alike.... But BOY can she SING, but I prefer when she uses her raspy edge

One of those seemingly chirpy songs that's utterly harrowing beneath the surface. A couple of lines still floor me. It's ridiculous how underrated Natalie Merchant is as a lyricist. She's one of the very best. I don't think there's another song that captures the sheer lethargy of depression as well as this. "Well by the force of will my lungs are filled and so I breathe / Lately it seems this big bed is where I never leave... it is such a long time since my better days."

so, this song is supposedly about depression? i suppose it could be... i never thought of it that way. But after living in Chicago for a few years, i can relate to the not wanting to get out & do anything part... heck, even Texas heat will do that to you. You get cabin fever - that in itself can make anyone feel depressed, esp. when it's 20 degrees out & there's too much snow on the ground! So i think it's a little bit of both.

This is a great song, but I love Natalie more as a solo artist... Their version of "Because the Night" is pretty amazing though.

luv this song!!! i think this her strongest vocal performance of all the Maniacs & solo songs i've heard of hers. It's 1 of my favorite Natalie songs next to "These Are Days".
