Continual source of confusion to me how this doesn't show up on "Best albums of the 1990s" lists. Such a deep, beautiful, sad, poetic record. It sounds so calm on the surface but there's a violent storm of emotion underneath that still resonates. There are so few lyricists who've hit the kind of heights Natalie Merchant hit on this record.

After only hearing the live MTV album; I never thought a 10,000 Maniacs album would be much good, but this one is just fantastic. Very captivating throughout. Will need to hear more of this band's work.

ONE SHOUT for this disc? What a travesty. "These Are Days" and "Candy Everybody Wants" are absolute classics of their time or any time! "Circle Dream" is lovely, "Few and Far Between" is Motown-tastic, "How You've Grown" is moving-- just buy the whole album, if you don't have it! :-)
