Rie Tanaka (田中理恵, born January 3, 1979 in Sapporo, Japan), is a Japanese voice actress and vocalist. Her debut as a singer came in 1998, when she won the grand prix in the vocalist audition held by Media Works and Scitronsang, and got the chance to perform the song 永遠の親友 featured in the Playstation game Yukyu Gensokyoku. A year later she released two drama CDs, which included some songs and demos. Her first full-length album titled garnet was released in 2001, and included several anime insert songs that she had performed at that time. Her major breakthrough came in 2002 with her role in the animated TV series Chobits. In addition to providing the voice for the main character, Chii, she performed both ending themes for the series, Raison d'être and ニンギョヒメ. Her second album 24 wishes was released in 2003. She continued to receive high-profile voice acting roles, such as Lacus Clyne and Meer Campbell in the Gundam SEED series, for which she also sung character songs. Her mini album Chara de Rie contains these as well as character songs from other voice roles. Her most recent solo album, ココロ, was released in 2010. She continues to focus on voice acting, and has recently been involved in online animated series and video games.
