Elefthería Arvanitáki (Ελευθερία Αρβανιτάκη) is a Greek singer of Icarian descent, born in Piraeus. She started her music career in 1980, by joining the group Opisthodromiki Kompania (Οπισθοδρομική Κομπανία) ("Retrograde Company") where she made her first appearance as a singer. In 1981 she was featured on an album of Vangelis Germanos entitled "Ta Barakia". In August 2004 she participated in the closing ceremony of the Athens Olympics. The unique crystal-like clarity of her voice made her a hugely popular figure in the "artistic" (entehno) Greek song genre, and judging from her rather young age, there she has still a lot in store for us.
