“KING” marks the final track of the first installment in Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s VULTURES trilogy. The track’s subject matter is focused on the continuously negative press coverage about Ye while Ty focuses on more materialistic things such as designer brands and money.

The song’s heavy production sees a primary use of drums and bass while supported by what appears to be a sample of Ozzy Osbourne’s September 1980 hit, “Crazy Train”. The song has a bouncy cadence, enabling Ye and Dolla to spit back and forth in confidence of their lyrics.

Upon the release, Ye faced some backlash from listeners, who misinterpreted his chorus as boasting about being anti-Semitic. Rather, his intended message was to describe how the media have labelled him, in order to highlight his ‘against all odds’ comeback and un-cancellable status.

The song’s title is in reference to Kanye’s belief that he’s the “KING” of all, potentially linking back to his idolization of himself in his June 2013, Yeezus.

On the track, Dolla’s appearance is limited, however, when he does emerge, his gospel-like vocals blend perfectly with Kanye’s rap lyrics while bringing a warm feeling to the track.

The song was originally merely teased in snippets by people around Ye and Dolla during the recording process, however, at the Vultures United Center Chicago 02 08 24 Listening Party, the track was played. However, directly after Ye’s ‘antisemitic’ line, the live stream was cut off, leading to speculation that the venue was not happy with the lyrical content. On February 10, 2024, at the NYC Listening Event, the duo previewed the full duration of the track as the finale.
