Description

It’s the announcement you’ve been waiting for! There’s been plenty of nervous hand wringing amongst clubbers this week with the Sydney leg of the Future Music Festival under threat of a proposed 6pm closure, but we can now breath a collective sigh of relief with the news that Randwick Council have given their approval for the festival to run until 10pm. To everyone who signed our petition, congrats on playing a part in saving the event! Capacity has been reduced from 35,000 down to 25,000, but Future Entertainment have confirmed the event is locked to go ahead at the venue.

It’s good news all round, as ITM can now confirm the first round lineup of artists who’ll be playing on the 2009 tour! Producer Pharrell Williams’ legendary rap/funk/rock act N.E.R.D were predicted as headliners, and it turns out they’ll be joined by a huge posse of amazing dance acts. Basement Jaxx are situated in the top tier of the world’s electronic live artists, right alongside last year’s spectacular headliners the Chemical Brothers, and in 2009 they’ll be joined on the bill by Brazilians CSS, as well as perhaps the biggest surprise of the lineup, French electro mainstay Etienne De Crecy, who’ll be bringing his legendary ‘cube’ show to Australia for the very first time! Together they form the strongest selection of live acts that have ever featured on a FMF lineup.

Joining the live acts will be a predictably solid array of international DJ talent that includes one of the original superstar DJs Paul Oakenfold, returning to Australia for the first time in quite a few years. Playing alongside ‘Oakey’ will be progressive trance favourites Markus Schulz and Christopher Lawrence, Swedish House Mafia bosses Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso – who we’re informed will play individual sets! – festival favourite Tocadisco, electro space invader Joachim Garraud and many more. Also on board for the 2009 tour, the Silent Disco will return to all dates nationwide!
