Press Release for Valley WORM Fest (Weekend Of Rock Music)
August 2007

1st ANNUAL VALLEY WORM FEST SET!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – The 1st Annual Valley WORM Fest will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 28-30, 2007, in Northampton, Massachusetts. The "Weekend Of Rock Music" will consist of four separate admission shows: Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 3pm and 8pm, and Sunday at 3pm. Each show is $5; weekend passes can be purchased at all Turn It Up! locations (http://www.turnitup.com) for $15. More than 20 bands and artists will be participating in this benefit for Flywheel Arts Collective (http://www.flywheelarts.org).

Flywheel, a nonprofit, volunteer-run community arts space open to all, recently moved from 2 Holyoke Street in Easthampton to the historic Easthampton Town Hall at 43 Main Street. The building requires a series of upgrades, including a new sprinkler system.

Valley Worm Fest was started by local musicians Jill Emmons, Jason Bourgeois, Scott Alden, and Matt Dube to showcase the wealth of local music talent in Western Massachusetts. Cofounder of Bourgeois Heroes and the Novels Jason Bourgeois explains: "I went to the Academy of Music with Brian Marchese not very long ago to watch a screening of D. A. Pennebaker's Monterey Pop and thought, 'Why not try something like this on a Western Mass-esque scale? There's tons of talent per square foot in my neighborhood.' While watching the film, I was filled with absurd fantasies of wearing a large, furry hat and chatting on a telephone to accountants in a tiny office with someone like Michelle Phillips by my side. This has yet to happen."

The festival is sponsored by the Valley Advocate and Sam Adams and will include acts such as: Abeja, Claudia Malibu, Josh Crane, Count Westwest, Curious Buddies, Fat Worm of Error, The Fawns, Zeke Fiddler, Levelette, Mark Mulcahy, The Novels, Philip Price (Winterpills), Mark Schwaber, Thane Thomsen (The Figments), Tumblecat Poof Poofy Poof, and many more.
