Description

On any given day there's a ridiculous amount of music and art being made in New York City, but perhaps no more than in the four-mile radius of Williamsburg and Greenpoint. The goal of the Northside Festival isn't lofty: We want to celebrate that community of independent musicians, filmmakers and artists in the place where it thrives the most, shining a light on the sheer talent and creativity that Brooklyn cultivates.

Mirroring a city that now more than ever seems only livable when you've got a community to prop you up, Northside is, at its heart, a collaborative event. While in its inaugural year, The L Magazine was responsible for organizing a handful of anchor shows with the Hold Steady, Sunset Rubdown, the Dodos and Bill Callahan among others, we reached out to more than 30 NYC-based record labels, blogs, independent show promoters, radio stations and other industry professionals to curate showcases of their own, bringing together over 250 bands to the Williamsburg/Greenpoint neighborhoods during a four-day span. Meanwhile, the Williamsburg Gallery Association helped to highlight over 25 artist exhibitions at the most respected galleries in the area. We couldn't be happier with how things went last year and can't wait to do it again, especially with the inclusion of Northside's inaugural FilmFest this summer.
