Description

The duo known as Lovesliescrushing first came together in the early '90s, when vocalist Melissa Arpin-Duimstra and multi-instrumentalist Scott Cortez debuted on the emerging shoegaze scene. They began to send out demo tapes of their bizarre, heavily layeredmusic to labels until Projekt finally contacted the band about releasing a single. 1994's “Your Eyes Immaculate” was the result, a single that so impressed the label that a year later they released the full-length ‘Bloweyelashwish.’ Ethereal textures, wordless female vocals, and repetitive droning set them apart. The band was back the next year with ‘Xuvetyn,’ an even more complex, lush album moving the sound further in the direction of experimental music. But the band would drop off after touring —working towards a new studio album for years.

2002 proved golden for fans: Arpin and Cortez re-emerged with a third album, the intricate and glossy ‘Glissceule,’ followed by ‘Voirshn.’ The group took a break from recording for much of the rest of the decade, but returned in full force with 2010's ‘GIRLS ECHO SUNS VEILS’ and ‘Avianium’, 2011's ‘Aviatrix’, and 2013's ‘Ghost Colored Halo’.

“Through their use of low-tech means and focusing on the blending of guitar noise and electronic voice processing, Lovesliescrushing can be seen as the early ‘missing link’ between the likes of Slowdive and Fennesz...works that contain an element of sonic mystery and still sound timeless.

““A Scaffold” heralds the return of Mahogany, the shoegaze band who last released music in 2013. The single, produced alongside Jeremy Scott at the Civil Defense studio in Brooklyn, New York, rests on a sinewy bassline and their typically spatial synth atmospherics. A modern update on their absorbing sound, without compromising on their original, propulsiveenergy.”—Norman Records, Leeds UK“Music as sublime architecture”—Post-Punk.comMahogany dovetails elements of postpunk, shoegaze, disco and classical into futuristic, architectural, symphonic compositions. Duo Andrew Prinz and Jaclyn Slimm combine vocals, twin 12-string guitars, massive bass, densely-sequenced rhythms, and a variety of synthesizers and samplers for an immersive effect known as the "Hypercube."

The Mahogany discography already comprises two critically-acclaimed full-length albums ‘The Dream of the Modern Day’ and ‘Connectivity!’, as well as numerous singles, EPs and compilation tracks collected on the double-disc set ‘Memory Column: Early Works and Rarities 1996-2004’. While producing, designing and remixing for artists including Ulrich Schnauss, Auburn Lull, The Veldt, Lovesliescrushing, Aerofall, and Pinkshinyultrablast, more recent Mahogany work also includes the expansive 8-minute maxi-single “Phase Break.”

Performing live with artists like Anika, Jonathan Bree, Vampire Weekend, Spoon, Bloc Party, Interpol, Luna, Broadcast, and many others, Mahogany garners reviews and features in Pitchfork, The Wire, The New York Times, NME, Guardian, ZOO Magazine, NYLON Japan, MOJO, Record Collector and more.

Honeycrush is the solo project of New York singer-songwriter and poet Alexandra Antonopoulos. Though the classically-trained Brooklyn artist only began playing guitar in 2020 and recorded her debut EP Milk Teeth (2023) alone in her home studio, these four songs sound like they were made by an accomplished full band. Her dark, methodically-paced music is aptly compared to two of her influences, PJ Harvey and Fiona Apple, and you can also detect Astrid Williamson and Kristin Hersh in her fervent, intoxicatingdelivery. Antonopoulos has authored one book of poetry, "Feast," published by Atmosphere Press in 2021. http://instagram.com/honeyyycrushmusic
