In February, Šiška will roar. We’ll be hosting the premiere package of two cult names in heavy, loud music – the eagerly awaited Belgians Amenra and Japanese veterans Boris. Come. Let them shake you to your core.

Amenra are a cult. They’re a band that grew into a religion. They’re an unyielding sonic force whose power is measured not in decibels, but in kilotons. Their shows are not just concerts, they’re a ritual service, using heavy artillery to pierce and quarter the souls of those in attendance, before ecstatically piecing them back together in their own image. The Belgian band, around which the Church of Ra musical and artistic collective (Oathbreaker, Hessian, The Black Heart Rebellion, …) formed, count even the forefathers of post-metal, Neurosis, among their faithful. In October, they released their sixth album, Mass VI, via Neurosis’ Neurot Recordings, with the esteemed Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Swans, Melvins, Jawbreaker, Sleep, Brutal Truth, Agalloch, Mr. Bungle, Cattle Decapitation …) producing. And soon, they’ll be delivering their sermon in Šiška as well.

On one of their rare ventures to Slovenia, the Belgians will be accompanied by the flagbearers of experimental metal, Japan’s Boris, who recently celebrated a quarter of a century of demolishing sonic barriers and constantly pushing boundaries. Among the broader audience, they’re probably best known for their album Pink, which was even included on the best-of-2006 lists at Pitchfork and SPIN. Boris also released a new record in 2017, Dear, via Sargent House. The genre-bending musicians, who have collaborated with Sunn O))), Merzbow, Keiji Haino, Ian Astbury (The Cult) and others throughout their illustrious career, again proved themselves to be titans of heavy, merciless tunes, fearlessly heading towards new sonic excess. And we’re more than willing to submit to it.
