Mahalia

Mahalia and Birmingham Promoters team up to bring you the second in a very special series of events we’re calling ‘Mahalia Presents’ in which the Leicester songstress invites her dearest and favourite artists to the stage for a most excellent night of music!

Two years spent supporting the likes of Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande, Nick Mulvey, Laura Mvula, Kate Tempest and Tom Odell and playing at festivals across the country including Latitude, Wilderness, and Camp Bestival has seen the young artist Mahalia develop into an exciting, soulful and vibrant performer with a deeply affecting vocal and lyrical style.

Having survived GCSE’s, Mahalia is focusing on recording tracks for her new album working with producers from the UK and abroad with releases planned throughout 2015 to follow on from her acclaimed acoustic EP Headspace released in 2013

With a successful year long Leicester residency, Mahalia Presents, under her belt which featured an eclectic list of guests including Fiona Bevan, Saint Raymond, JP Cooper, Alessi’s Ark, Joel Baker and loads more, Mahalia has made the move to Birmingham’s The Rainbow.

Bear

Bear are Wolverhampton vocalist Faye Smith, accompanied by French multi-instrumentalist Gordon Begard. Together they create a sound that is soulful, powerful and wise. An exciting blend of acoustic, hip hop, and soul, Bear combine fresh original compositions with surprising takes on some their most cherished influences, making these songs undeniably their own. Begard provides a perfectly gaged backdrop of guitar and beats for Smith’s unique voice, which belongs amongst the likes of Selah Sue, Adele, Janis Joplin, Florence Welch, and at times Lauren Hill.

For Bear, music is about connecting with people, and their live performances are all about sharing the passion for what they do with songs driving home the message of inspiration, empowerment, and self-determination. Meeting in Toulouse, France, Bear have travelled and played together for little over a year, they now call Birmingham their home and seek to see how the city and beyond, through the people they meet, can influence their sound.

Dean James

Dean James is a singer-songwriter from Lichfield. He has been performing and playing music since the age of thirteen. After leaving school Dean attended the British Academy of New Music in London along with the likes of Ed Sheeran and The King Blues. He then went on to study at the University of Westminster where he was rewarded a degree in Commercial Music and Performance.

His unique sound of compelling vocals and catchy guitar rifts are performed live and solely by himself, but with the addition of a loop and other effect pedals, he manages to shock audiences, creating the impression of a full band. His music has been likened with artists such as Ben Howard, Stereophonics and Oasis. Dean is currently living back in the Midlands where he is going to continue to perform shows all over England.
