Altar of Plagues are along with Krallice, Blut aus Nord or Deafheaven a part of the current wave of black metal bands that shift the genre away from orthodoxy. However, as most apparent on their last LP, Teethed Glory and Injury (2013), they do not stop at merely mixing the black metal sound with mild influences from elsewhere, they take the genre apart and rebuild it. Occasional bits of ambient and minimal electronica are followed by almost industrial drums, the quieter, delicate yet nervous parts of their tracks all of the sudden blow up into an epic mass of sound. With some luck, they won’t completely raze the 007 to the ground on the last Saturday of March, but they’ll surely shake its foundations.

Altar of Plagues jsou spolu s Krallice, Blut aus Nord nebo Deafheaven součástí nové vlny blackových kapel, které posouvají žánr dál od ortodoxie. Jak je ale patrné hlavně na jejich poslední řadovce, Teethed Glory and Injury (2013), na rozdíl od výše zmíněných se neomezují na mírné odklony v rámci žánru, v jejich muzice jsou slyšet ohlasy ambientu a minimalistické elektroniky, industriální bicí střídají nervózní momenty ticha, subtilní pasáže se nečekaně rozvinou do epické masy zvuku. Strahovskou Sedmičku poslední sobotu března snad do základů nezboří, určitě ale otřesou základy.
