Description

Hailed as an electro-pop firebrand in demand with the likes of Gorillaz, SBTRKT and Outkast's Big Boi, Sweden's instantly loveable Little Dragon continue their genre-jumping domination as a new generation's Blondie, bringing four albums of dreamy funk bounce for a dance-ready debut at the Sydney Opera House.

From their high school start to the ballad-breakthrough of 'Twice', Little Dragon's glistening songwriting sparked through a decade as Sweden's best kept secret – teasing a Prince-inspired throb shared between three prodigious multi-instrumentalists and the hopscotch antics of front-woman Yukimi Nagano. Described as a mix of 'Sade, Bjork, Marvin Gaye and Santigold all rolled into one' (The Telegraph), Yukimi's playful melodies took a scene-stealing turn on triple j's Like A Version, covering both Kelis' sweet refrains and Andre 3000's virtuosic verses in 'Millionaire'.

Hitting stride on stage as 2011's Ritual Union reached no. 4 on the US dance chart, the quartet have leapt into another league from their 'press-play' peers, maintaining a summery ease akin to Bonobo's recent The North Borders tour. Ever-treading the pop-invention tightrope with a powerhouse return on the R'n'B-inspired Nabuma Rubberband, the quartet have introduced jazz-style grooves into their oeuvre ('Klapp Klapp'), letting Yukimi loose with spades of diva-sized sass to prove it.

Casually declaring that 'live performance is a ritual union, one of the few that still exists in the western world... and yeah, we like it', Little Dragon will show off their room-rumbling pop amidst the harbour-side splendour of the Concert Hall – a career-spanning set from one of the century's most surprising chart thrills yet.
