Kate Tempest

Birmingham Promoters are delighted to announce they’ll be teaming up with Leftfoot to bring the wonderful Kate Tempest to the Hare & Hounds Birmingham on Sunday 16th November 2014.

Kate Tempest started out when she was 16, rapping at strangers on night buses and pestering mc’s to let her on the mic at raves. Ten years later she is a published playwright, novelist, poet and respected recording artist.

Her debut album Everybody Down has finally hit the shelves – real and virtual – to ubiquitous acclaim. And it’s not just the press. Kate played a one off, intimate gig in London to celebrate the release, and Rick Rubin and Frank Ocean were amongst the wowed audience along with The Guardian who awarded it a stunning 5/5 review.

Seeing Kate Tempest perform live enhances everything you hear on the album. She is earnest, urgent, savvy, streetwise, warm and most of all, riotously talented with words. She’s no simple showboat MC, revelling in speed alone, but someone who uses her staggering command of language to create music with narrative, themes, character and meaning in a way unique to her genre. She’s a rapper who makes poetry out of rap music.

Don’t miss your chance to see one of the most thrilling young artists in the UK just now, and get up close to the results of her visceral talent. If you don’t go see her this time, we can promise that when you do, you’ll have to stand a lot further from the stage.

Mahalia

Mahalia is a talented young singer/songwriter, with a distinctive and deeply affecting voice, original songs and beautiful music. She has supported Ed Sheeran, Laura Mvula, Emeli Sande and Tom Odell, and performed at the Teenage Cancer Trust’s annual Albert Hall fundraiser alongside Rizzle Kicks and Labrinth.

Her own eclectic Mahalia Presents nights at Leicester’s Cookie Jar venue have allowed Mahalia to support a range of emerging talent including St Raymond, Fiona Bevan and JP Cooper.

Now with the dreaded GCSE’s out of the way Mahalia is working hard with some exciting producers to complete her debut album.
