Description
Multi award winning Scottish folk singer Emily Smith is a leading figure of the Scottish folk scene. Having started her career as an instrumentalist on piano and accordion, it’s as a songwriter Emily has been likened to ‘a Scottish Joni Mitchell’, but is equally adept at presenting fresh and evocative interpretations of traditional material.
She has appeared at the Cambridge Folk Festival, Celtic Connections, Denmark’s Tonder Folk Festival, Edmonton Folk Festival and the National Folk Festival in Australia. Alongside her solo career Emily has worked with an array of artists including Richard Thompson, Eddi Reader and Beth Nielsen Chapman. In 2013 she released her fifth album Ten Years, a special anniversary album to mark Emily’s tenth anniversary as a folksinger.
Emily will be joined by Jamie McClennan, Matheu Watson, Signy Jakobsdottir and Ross Hamilton.
“One of the finest Scots traditional Scots voices around” (The Scotsman)
“Surely the most impressive young instrumentalist and songwriter singing in English” (The Guardian)
