Description
Nick Mulvey gained recognition as one of the founders of jazz band Portico Quartet. He performed all around the world with Portico Quartet and garnered a Mercury Music Prize nomination in 2008 for the album Knee-deep in the North Sea. In spite of, or maybe because, of the success of Portico Quartet Nick decided to change course and to leave the group. From a hailed jazz musician he became a singer-songwriter. After the release of his first ep he started working on a debut album. Heavily inspired by greats such as Paul Simon, Nick Drake and Ali Farka Touré.
One of his first live performances was at Eurosonic 2013 and he immediately proved that next to a brilliant guitarist he is also a great singer. Recently he got nominated for the BBC-poll Sound of 2014, a poll that only nominates the next big thing. It won't be a surprise that 2014 will be his year. One more reason to not miss out on his performance at BIRD.
