Description
Metronomes are known for their regular, predictable pattern. But predictability is the last thing anyone should expect from English art-pop favourites Metronomy, who head back to Australia early in the new-year.
Metronomy are riding high on universal acclaim for their Mercury Prize-nominated third album, The English Riviera. Turning away from the ice-cool, digital melancholia of Nights Out, the new album has the warm studio feel of 70s artists like Fleetwood Mac, and is filled with languid funk and belting pop with killer hooks.
It is just the latest in a series of reinventions from Metronomy, which began life over a decade ago in Devon in founder Joseph Mount’s bedroom. From those initial, Björk and Aphex Twin-inspired experiments on a home computer, the band has evolved to a live four-piece outfit with Oscar Cash on keys, Gbenga Adelekan on bass and the beguiling Anna Prior on drums.
Now Australian fans have the chance to experience this latest and most surprising chapter in Metronomy’s kaleidoscopic tour through the heartlands of pop.
